SECUS WINE & ART TAKEOVER

$75 /  21+

People will tell you that a wine is only as good as the glass it is served in. “I’ve got a collection of Reidels and Zaltos; I’ve dabbled in Zweisel.”  While there is an allure to ultra-fine crystal, it’s time to rethink what makes a great drinking vessel. Drum roll… Mac Clay is in the wine cup business, and you’re invited to decorate them while drinking wines from one of the most exciting new producers in the Willamette – SECUS.

SECUS is a wine and art project by Nicholas Calouri named for a latin word meaning “to the contrary”. This is a small-scale project with incredible ambition – equal parts winemaking, farming and artistic expression. This is not the wine industry that you grew up with. It’s the underground movement, the Willamette valley chopped-and-screwed. Nicholas is an artist and winemaker who has thought deeply about the intersection of visual art, winemaking, and agricultural commitments. This event will be the first ever tasting of Nicholas’s sophomore release, two wines collectively called “Volume II”. Learn more about his project here.

Come celebrate the handmade, the delicious, and the slightly off-center. No, we won’t be drinking out of fancy Austrian crystal. For two hours, we’ll be making and discussing art, drinking and discussing wine, and generally tearing down the altar of both.

The event includes two handmade, dishwasher-safe ceramic cups that you will decorate with underglazes over the course of our two hour conversation. After the event, Matthew will glaze and fire the cups before letting you know they are ready for pick up (2-3 weeks). If you like what you taste, you’ll be able to order wines to pick up with your finished wine cups.

Included in the Ticket: Two cups that you’ll decorate with underglazes; wine tasting led by Nicholas; light bites; great vibes.

Established 2025

Mac Clay is the first ceramic studio solely focused on classes, workshops and events in McMinnville. We believe in strengthening community by deepening all of our understandings of ceramic art — whether wheel throwing technique, pinch pots, Instagram trends or pre-historic forms. Wherever you are on your ceramic journey, we will meet you at the place where curiosity, passion and technique find form.
Think of Mac Clay as a town square for all things ceramic. Whether you’re taking a multiweek class at our Downtown location, attending a weekend masterclass, or reserving space in the studio for the day, we exist to help you access the magic of clay creation. Our mission is to serve both the beginner and advanced studio potter in a safe, vibrant environment. But there’s more: we don’t only make beautiful things; we explore new dimensions of ourselves and how we relate to each other. Mac Clay is honored to enter a conversation with the Yamhill County area. So follow along as we kick off a series of events that introduce ourselves while recentering a craft that developed lock-step with humanity itself.
