Have you ever wanted to be someone — or something — else? Do you actually have three eyes? Is there a playful monster living at the edges of your psyche that needs unleash its love into the world?

In this two-hour workshop, you’ll design and create a ceramic face mask using hand-building techniques that are  expressive and approachable. Using slabs of clay, you’ll shape and sculpt facial features—from abstract and surreal to playful or dramatic—guided by a teaching artist who will help bring your vision to life. Whether you’re channeling inner mythology or exploring form through texture and gesture, this workshop is a chance to unearth and inhabit other identities.

We’ll cover basic slab construction, additive sculpting, and surface decoration techniques using stamps, slip, and carving. The focus is on freedom and expression rather than perfection—this class is about building something that reflects a part of you we don’t usually see.

After class, we’ll finish and fire your piece in our studio kilns. Your mask will be ready for pickup in about 3–4 weeks, complete with a wire for hanging or display.

No prior experience is needed—just curiosity and a sense of play. Come build something bold, weird, beautiful, or all of the above.

Coming This Summer To McMinnville

Mac Clay is the first ceramic studio solely focused on classes, workshops and events in McMinnville. We believe in strengthening community by stoking conversations and deepening understanding of ceramic practice — whether wheel throwing technique, pinch pots, Instagram trends or pre-historic forms. Wherever you are on your ceramic journey, we will meet you at the place where curiosity, passion and technique find form.
Think of Mac Clay as a town square for all things ceramic. Whether you’re taking a multiweek class at our Downtown location, attending a weekend masterclass, or reserving space in the studio for the day, we exist to help you access the magic of clay creation. Our mission is to serve both the beginner and advanced studio potter in a safe, vibrant environment. But there’s more: we don’t only make beautiful things; we explore new dimensions of ourselves and how we relate to each other. Mac Clay is honored to enter a conversation with the Yamhill County area. So follow along as we kick off a series of events that introduce ourselves while recentering a craft that developed lock-step with humanity itself.
